Group of dancers stand in circle with bowed heads beside the crater to give thanks to the goddess Pele after winning the annual contest for the ancient hula. Whilst there is renewed interest in the hula the majority of dancers are white Caucasian Americans haoles or Asian Americans hapa-haoles who do not speak the Hawaiian language.
